Originally when settled Washington, PA was named Bassettown, and then renamed for Washington for George Washington in 1784. Washington, PA was first incorporated as a borough in 1810. The following year, the National Road was routed through the city on Maiden Street. This allowed for the city to grow and thrive. In the 1900’s Washington was a transportation hub, county seat and a bustling college town. Located just 30 miles south of Pittsburgh, PA, Washington is a quick drive to the city utilizing I-79.
Now, with over 250 acres of beautiful woodland areas with facilities for sports, swimming, and trails, Washington, PA is the perfect place to work and live. Washington is served by a full time Police and Fire Department, and is home to Washington & Jefferson College.
